President’s question time: FF Plus confronts EFF on - the ‘white economy’ must fall

During the President’s question time on 18 June 2020, the FF Plus confronted the EFF about its view that South Africa should remain on Level Five of lockdown indefinitely in order to bring down the so-called ‘white economy’.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was asked to take a stance on this view and he responded by saying that the government does not agree with the EFF.

It was put to the President that he himself compared the post-Covid-19 situation to a post-war situation and he was asked whether the government also believes that certain sectors of the economy must first collapse entirely before they can be rebuilt.

President Ramaphosa answered that after the lockdown, the economy must be ‘restructured’ for the benefit of all South Africans and that the country cannot afford the destruction of certain sectors.

He added that certain sectors are indeed in crisis, but that they must be saved and protected in the interest of the economy and job opportunities and for the sake of all South Africans.
