SOUTH AFRICA— President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to attend the official announcement of the final results for the 2026 Local Government Elections. The ceremony will take place at the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) National Results Operations Centre, located at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.
The IEC is set to officially declare the final electoral outcomes at 6:00 PM on Sunday, with the proceedings being broadcast live to the public. The Presidency confirmed that the head of state will attend the ceremony in his official capacity as the President of the Republic of South Africa and will deliver brief remarks during the event.
The national voting process for the municipal councils concluded earlier this week. South African citizens cast their ballots on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, to elect their local representatives. Prior to the main voting day, special votes were successfully administered on November 2 and November 3, 2026.
These elections provided registered voters across the nation the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights and fulfill their civic duties. By participating in the electoral process, citizens directly influenced local governance and service delivery within their respective communities.
