The South African Police Service in the Province is highly concerned about the continuous spike on drowning incidents this festive season.

Members of the community are once more advised to be vigilant and exercise safety precautions when cooling themselves at the beaches, rivers and dams.

Parents are also urged to ensure supervision of the children when out there swimming.

Community members are also warned on the current of the rivers and dams i.e where there are drop offs (sudden dip or holes in the dams, rivers) and these currents are misjudged to be shallow water.

Use of homemade floating devices e.g. the 2lt plastic bottle which doesn’t hold as children cannot swim and utilize these devices are strongly discouraged.
