Police have arrested a 30-year-old man for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and metro police uniform.

The man was arrested on Monday afternoon in Slovo while police and tracker officials were searching for a stolen VW Polo. Police spokesperson Constable Petunia Chabangu said the tracker signal from the car that was stolen in Ga-Rankuwa during a house robbery led officers to the suspect’s hideout.

“When police approached the location of the stolen vehicle, they found three suspects inside. The suspects saw police and fled the scene in a BMW. The driver was arrested a few meters from where they were hiding,” she said.

The suspect was taken back to the hideout and police found the wanted car along with a metro police uniform, multiple stolen cell phones, three stolen identity books, two stolen drivers licences, three stolen car keys and a box containing equipment used to break into cars.

“The suspect will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court for possession of stolen motor vehicle,” she said.
