The SA African Transport & Allied Workers Union (SATAWU), as well as four other unions, issued a warning of a possible national bus strike next week. This is because of a deadlock reached with pay negotiations.

The strike is scheduled for 18 April 2018.

A minimum wage of R8 000 and a 12% annual increase are demanded while employers are offering a R6 050 minimum salary and an annual increase of 7.5%.

Precious man hours will be lost due to commuters who can not reach their jobs on time and this at a time when the economy is already under pressure. However, for unions they still receive monthly membership fees without the risk of “no work no payment.”
