A part-time farmer from Estancia near Ermelo Mr. Gerhard van der Walt “Oros” was attacked and robbed early Thursday morning. The attacker stabbed him in the face, head and his ear was pierced with a knife.
The incident happened when Mr. Van der Walt noticed an unattended fire on his farm and went to investigate.
The attacker pounced on him from the grass, and the men began fighting. Mr. van der Walt had stab wounds on his head, face and left earlobe.
A suspect was later arrested along the road between Ermelo and Hendrina.
Mr. van der Walt’s truck keys and an amount of cash was recovered.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the Breyten police station and detained.
The man appeared at Ermelo in court on Friday morning. No further details are known at this stage.
