Paramedics help injured dog

Paramedics went beyond the call of duty and stopped to help a dog that had been knocked over in Roodepoort on Tuesday morning.

It was critically injured along Main Reef Road, on the West Rand, shortly after 06:00, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Bystanders flagged down an ambulance. The driver said he was on his way to an emergency, but called another ambulance. That crew stopped the bleeding and took the critically injured dog to the Roodekruin animal clinic.

After the vet examined the dog and took X-rays, he decided that its injuries were too severe and put it down.

Botha said the paramedics were saddened by the incident.
