Ozzie Saffa: SA – ANC uses majority to protect Zuma

A few days ago President Jacob Zuma said that South Africa had vastly improved over the past 20 years, building a buoyant economy, deepening democracy and combating crime and corruption. Just what planet is he living on??

Ah, my favorite though, is combating crime and corruption……just as long as it’s not HIS corruption that’s combated.

The ANC used its majority in Parliament to halt any scrutiny of the president’s role in the spending scandal for his Nkandla estate ahead of the elections.

Zuma won’t be facing Parliamentary questions about the expensive upgrades to his Nkandla home for now.

ANC Member of Parliament Buti Manamela said it’s not in the ANC’s interests that President Jacob Zuma remains implicated in the Nkandla scandal.

Not in their interests. How very quaint. If only ordinary people could have a say in what’s in their interests when it comes to corruption; however, I’m willing to bet were the ANC to become aware of corruption by a White businessperson, then the full extent of the law would be thrown at them quicker than they could say “I vote ANC”.

For the ANC? Not so much.

It’s not as if Zuma – as president – should be held to a higher standard…..oh wait!

Can you imagine if this had happened under the Apartheid government, how quickly the ANC would have thrown their toys out the cot? Now that they’re in power, all of a sudden their sensibilities aren’t quite so delicate. [….]
