Owner shot at suspects armed with AK-47

In the early hours of Thursday morning a family was attacked at Loumarina Plots, Randfontein – allegedly by four gunmen. Initially the herald was told on scene that there had been a shootout between the security company and the suspects following the house robbery.

EPR operations manager Mac van Zyl gave EPR Security’s version of the events: “Four armed men poisoned two dogs on the property. When the dogs were found one already was dead while the second was taken to a veterinarian.

“The wife of the owner of the house came out at 5.20am to feed the dogs and that was when the four men attacked her and forced her into the house. The owner of the house heard the commotion and fetched his weapon from the safe.

“The men then used the woman as a shield while they fired at the owner. The woman managed to free herself from the men while they focused on the owner of the house. One of the men had a AK-47 assault rifle. The owner only fired one shot from his weapon, hitting one of the men who left a bloody trail behind him while fleeing.

“The owner then pressed his panic button. EPR reaction officers Brendon Blom and Nino Ragni had to climb over the fence to secure the premises and followed the bloody trail about 1km through a close-by veld. The trail ended at a dirt road and no one has been arrested yet.”…
