32-year-old Suna Venter was found dead in her apartment in Johannesburg.

She gained popularity last year after she stood up against the SABC management’s controversial command that no reporting on violent protests may be viewed on the SABC.

Venter and seven of her colleagues objected to it, with the result that they were suspended. Later the SABC was instructed by a lawsuit to re-appoint Venter.

She was also a brave journalist who was interested in foreign countries, and she visited several war-torn areas, including terrorists, to report on it.

She has recently been diagnosed with a condition known as stress cardiomyopathy or “broken heart syndrome.” It is apparently caused by trauma and extended periods of incredible stress.

She recently received several death threats, she was shot with a pellet gun in the face, and her car was sabotaged several times.

Although she probably had stressful tension during her dispute with the SABC, no-one is likely to be prosecuted for her death.
