Officer wounded in Soweto shoot-out

A police officer was wounded in a shoot-out following an ATM bombing in Dobsonville, Soweto on Thursday morning, Gauteng police said.

“Police officers who were on routine patrol alleged that they heard a bang nearby,” Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said, adding that they then went to investigate.

“They were shot at apparently by the suspects who were fleeing from an ATM bombing scene near Elias Motsoaledi Street in Dobsonville where an undisclosed amount of money was taken. As the police were taking cover, the suspects disappeared.”

The 28-year-old constable was shot in his right foot. He was recovering at a local hospital.

“The suspects are still at large and police are appealing to anyone who knows the identity or the whereabouts of these suspects to come forward,” Dlamini said.
