At the end of September this year, there were a total of 580 vacant education posts at schools in the PWV area, all at management level, which is a strong indicator of dysfunctional education in this province.

This is the comment of adv. Anton Alberts, chairman of the FF Plus.

In response to a written parliamentary question from adv. Alberts to the Minister of Basic Education revealed that there were vacant positions for 62 principals, 109 deputy heads and 409 heads of department.

The minister could not say why the posts were not filled. She could also not answer questions about the number of schools, unused schools or the number of new schools that will be built to accommodate the growing student grade.

She could not answer questions about the pressure on Afrikaans schools and said she was waiting for answers from the Gauteng Department of Education.

Adv. Alberts says it is a shame and possibly with the intention that the MEC in the province, Panyaza Lesufi, allows so many posts not to be filled and that money received by his department to build new schools is not used.

“By deliberately creating a situation where schools do not function properly due to education shortages and artificially increasing the pressure of student talents due to the failure to build new schools, Lesufi now creates a reason to force functional and Afrikaans medium schools to engage foreign-language pupils.”

“Experience has already taught that Afrikaans-English medium schools finally become completely angry when they are forced to accommodate English as well.”

“The money is available to repair schools, to build new schools and to fill the education posts. It is the FF Plus’s opinion that Lesufi deliberately fails to do it to completely eradicate Afrikaans schools,” said adv. Alberts.
