According to the Special Investigation Unit’s chief advocate, Andy Mothibi, there are nearly 686 cases that have been referred to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) since 2013, which are being kept ‘under the table’.

These cases deal with the prevention of corruption, organized crime and public financial fraud. In most cases, officials are involved who have granted contracts to businessmen without authorization and without following the correct procedure.

Even requests to the now dismissed NPA chief, Shaun Abrahams, to report on the delays did not yield anything. NPA, however, blames the police and the Hawks for the “doing nothing”.
