Notorious gang arrested in KwaMashu

On 28 April 2016, a notorious group of criminals called the “Msenti’s Gang” were arrested in KwaMashu.

They were wanted for a number of house robberies and business robberies in the Inanda area. Two unlicensed firearms, a 303 rifle and a 9mm pistol were also recovered from the suspects.

The four men will appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 3 May 2016 on charges of robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms.

Members of the Trio Task Team and Inanda Crime Prevention Unit embarked on an intelligence driven operation in KwaMashu and Ntuzuma aimed at tracing these thugs who terrorized the community of Inanda and the surroundings.

The suspects were arrested in the KwaMashu and Ntuzuma areas. One of the firearms that was recovered from the men was taken from a police officer who was attacked and robbed of his service pistol at Ntuzuma earlier this year.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded police for rounding up the gang. “I am elated that another criminal grouping is behind bars where they cannot terrorize innocent members of the community anymore. We hope that the community will play an active role by working with police to eradicate such thugs from society. We should not allow criminals to invade our neighbourhoods,” she said.
