The Olifantshoek Visible Policing members arrested two suspects aged 27 and 28 in connection with R63 000 worth of Bonsmara cattle stolen from a farm near Olifantshoek. It is alleged that the suspects, who are the employees at the farm, had connived with accomplices to steal the cattle from the farm.
Stolen cattle included five Bonsmara calves and two Bonsmara cattle. The police executed the arrest of the duo on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 subsequent to receiving the information regarding cattle stolen on a farm near Olifantshoek. The suspects were also found in possession of fifteen bales of Lucerne and 75 litres of diesel, which were also stolen from the farm.
The lawful owner positively identified the cattle, after the arrest of his employees. The suspects are expected to appear before the Olifantshoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 19 November 2020 on a charge of stock theft.
The farmers are cautioned to be vigilant, as we are approaching festive season. Farmers and livestock owners should continue to keep track of their livestock by counting them daily. Brand marking and tattooing of livestock is very important, as it assist in the event where the livestock is recovered from the hands of criminals. The farmers are encouraged to be on alert, as many suffer a loss due stock theft most prevalent during this time of the season. Farmers are encouraged to take extra precautionary measures to safeguard their livestock.
