A 22 year old Carnarvon man was sentenced to 10 years effective imprisonment for robbery with aggravated circumstances. On 11 July 2019, Hadley Van Wyk was sentenced in the Carnarvon Regional Court for robbing a 55 year old male of his bakkie.

On 19 May 2018 at about 21:00 Van Wyk caught a lift with the victim from a local sports-bar in Carnarvon. After travelling a reasonable distance Van Wyk bashed the victims’ face with a beer bottle, pushed him out of the vehicle and fled with his Datsun Bakkie.

The bakkie was found abandoned and crashed into a nearby hut in Carnarvon. Police followed up on information and arrested the accused at his house in Bonteheuwel, Carnarvon a few days later.

“The SAPS Pixley Ka Seme Cluster Commander, Brigadier Nomana Adonis commended the investigation officer, Detective Constable Estelle Nelson from the Carnarvon Detectives for a job well done. It is good to see that offenders of these serious and violent crimes are brought to book. These sentences sends out a stern message that crime will not be tolerated and also ensures that our communities are and feel safe.”
