Vigilance and quick response sees armed robber arrested, Kimberley

An alleged robbery in progress was stopped when two SAPS Public Service Act members attached to the Provincial Border Policing component stumbled on the incident on 21 August 2019, at approximately 09:50 in the Kimberley Industrial area.

As the members were driving, they witnessed the two suspects assaulting the 26 year old male victim with a knife. They stopped and disarmed one of the suspects while the other one fled the scene. Chief Administration Officer, Shane Pietersen and Personnel Officer, Renecia Sebogodi called for assistance after they apprehended and detained the suspect until police reinforcements arrived.

The 25 year old male suspect was arrested and charged with robbery. The police found the victim’s cell phone and cash on the suspect. The suspect should be appearing in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Koliswa Otola praised the members for their vigilance and quick response that led to this exceptional arrest.
