The District Commissioner of ZF Mgcawu, Major General Monica Sebili, has commended the thorough investigation by Sergeant Bahedile Nkwadipo of the Upington Detectives Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, which led to the conviction and sentencing of Lrikou Nomgojo (34) in the Upington Regional Court.

The tragic incident occurred on 10 August 2024, when Nomgojo and the deceased, Lucky Dondolo (36), were together at the accused’s house. An argument erupted between the two friends, escalating into a violent assault in which Nomgojo attacked Dondolo with a pick handle. A witness present at the scene attempted to intervene before leaving to seek help.

Upon returning, the witness discovered Dondolo’s lifeless body dragged to the street and immediately alerted the authorities. Police arrived to find Dondolo deceased on the scene, and Nomgojo was subsequently arrested.

On Thursday, 30 July 2025, the Upington Regional Court handed down a 15-year prison sentence to Nomgojo for the murder of his friend.

Major General Sebili emphasized that this sentencing demonstrates the dedication of detectives in the province to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes.
