Tik dealer handed 7 year sentence, Upington

Upington Magistrate court convicted and sentenced Ebere Igwe (41), to seven years direct imprisonment for corruption and possession of drugs on 17 September 2020.

Igwe and his companion were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs (Tik) in May 2019. He attempted to bribe the investigating officer and offered to pay him R1 000 in order to destroy the docket.

The Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team were alerted, and a sting operation was conducted, resulting in an immediate arrest of the accused after he paid the officer the gratification.

He was sentenced to two years imprisonment for possession of drugs, three years imprisonment for possession of drugs and seven years direct imprisonment for corruption.

He is deemed unfit to possess firearm.
