
Three men from Victoria West, aged between 35 and 60, were arrested on Thursday, 22 May 2025, in connection with an alleged extortion case.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, 19 May 2025, at a construction site near the Gama sub-station in Victoria West. According to police reports, the suspects approached the complainant, claiming to be representatives of a local committee. They allegedly demanded the removal of currently appointed sub-contractors and instructed the complainant to employ only their chosen candidates.
The suspects further threatened the complainant with violence if he refused to comply. The victim subsequently reported the matter to the police, leading to the registration of an extortion case. The investigation was transferred to the Northern Cape SAPS Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit for further probing.
Following a swift investigation, authorities apprehended the three suspects. They are expected to appear in the Victoria West Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges.
