Members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit have arrested the third suspect after the rape of a 12 year old girl. The 20 year old male suspect was arrested at Welkom in the Free State on 25 November 2018, after an intensive manhunt by police. Two suspects aged 56 and 61 were arrested at Pampierstad on Friday for the rape of the same 12 year old girl.
The three were arrested after the Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri ordered the activation of a 72 hour action plan for the speedy arrest of the three.
It is reported the girl was raped since 2017 and she is reported to have been impregnated. The three suspects have been accused of having abused the girl on different occasions. Paternity tests will be conducted to determine the one who impregnated the girl.
The Provincial Commissioner has assured the community of Pampierstad that the police will ensure that the case is properly investigated in order for the law to take its course.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Kgomotso Magistrate’s Court on 26 November 2018.
