Teen arrested in connection with three family members murdered

Police in Sunrise, near De Aar, have made a break-through in the investigation into the murder of three family members in the town, with the arrest of an 18-year-old man, Northern Cape police said on Sunday.

This followed an intelligence-driven investigation and the suspect was arrested at his home in Sunrise on Sunday, Captain Olebogeng Tawana said.

The man would appear in the De Aar Magistrate’s Court soon on three counts of murder.

Earlier on Sunday, Tawana said: “A 40-year-old man Glenwill Makaleni (husband), 38-year-old Gladys Makaleni (wife), and 10-year-old Gladwill Makaleni (son) – a family of three – was discovered in the early hours of Saturday, 5 November 2016 fatally stabbed cold bloodedly in their home at Caroluspoort Street, Montana, De Aar.

“The deceaseds’ home was locked from inside; the investigation team had to cut off the burglar bars to gain entrance into the deceased family’s house.”

De Aar policing cluster commander Brigadier Nomahlubi Sofika had praised the Sunrise community for sharing information that led to the arrest of the suspect. The investigation was continuing, Tawana said.
