Sutherland woman gets 12 year sentence for murder of her boyfriend

On Thursday, 25 July 2019, the Sutherland Regional Court found Magrieta De Wet (34) guilty and sentenced her for the murder of 38 year old Jaco Booysen. Magrieta will serve an effective 12 years jail term after being convicted for murder.

On the December 2017 Magrieta drew a knife and fatally stabbed her boyfriend Jaco in the stomach. The duo were lovebirds and tragedy occurred when they argued about the paternity of their three month old baby.

Jaco died two days later and the autopsy revealed that his death was caused by the stab wound on his stomach. Magrieta was arrested and charged with murder. She was later released on bail.

The Northern Cape Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Koliswa Otola, praised the investigating officer Constable Barolleen Motha for her remarkable investigation.
