Stock thief arrested with stolen goats and illegal rifle, Prieska

A 25-year-old man has been arrested subsequent to be found illegally in possession of a hunting rifle and suspected stolen goats. The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Friday, 3 September 2021 in Steenbok Single, Prieska.

Community members alerted the police about a suspicious looking vehicle, a white Mazda bakkie which was parked, in Steenbok Single, just after 12am. The police reacted promptly to the alert and a male person was found sleeping inside the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, a hunting rifle was found inside the vehicle and two goats.

The suspect failed to produce a licence to possess a fire arm he was in possession of when he was requested including the authentic ownership of the goats. The vehicle was confiscated as it is believed to be instrumental in the commission of crime.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Prieska Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 September 2021, on counts of illegal possession of a firearm and stock theft.

The District Commander of Pixley Ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis applauded members of the Prieska community for their commitment in the fight against crime, by working in partnership with the police.
