The SAPS welcomes the sentences that was handed down to Helm Jonkers(29) and Ricardo De Jager Witbeker (50) in Richmond, recently.

On 1 March 2018 the complainant noticed a slaughter place in his camp on the farm close to Richmond. With further investigations and help of neighbours both suspects were caught red-handed with a carcass of a slaughtered Merino stud ewe. The value of the ewe is R5 000.

Jonkers pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment in the Richmond Regional Court. Ricardo was remanded in custody due to failure to appear in Court and was fined R300-00 or 3 months imprisonment. Subsequently he pleaded guilty on the charge of stock theft and received a further 8 years’ direct imprisonment on 11 April 2019.

It is with pride that the De Aar SAPS Cluster Commander, Brig Nomana Adonis commend the exceptional and diligent work of D/Sgt Rudolph Botha to further entrench the SAPS’ vehement stance against crime.
