The Rietfontein Stock Theft Unit members arrested a 31-year-old man found with stolen sheep in a trailer. The suspect was apprehended near a farm on 30 September 2020, after the Stock Theft Unit members, Detectives and Visible Police received a tip-off regarding a man who was seen in the veld loading sheep in a bakkie and a trailer.

A quick and prompt response of the police to a tip-off payed off when they found the suspect in possession of 11 lambs including 33 sheep to the value of R60 000-00.

The owner of the sheep was called to the scene and positively identified the sheep and lambs.

The suspect is expected to appear before Rietfontein Magistrate’s Court soon, on a charge of stock theft.

The Acting District Commissioner of ZF Mcgcawu, Brigadier Besnaar applauded community members for playing a pivotal role in the fight against crime.
