Sergeant Monageng Joy Makoke (37) and Constable Walter Setidisho (31) appeared in the Mothibistad Regional Court facing assortment of charges that include Mothibistad Regional Court, two counts of attempted murder and kidnapping.

They were arrested on Monday morning by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team with the assistance of Tactical Response Team and Crime Intelligence.

The officials attached to Kuruman Crime Prevention were allegedly involved in a syndicate that used police detachable blue-lights to stop motorists, robbed them their cash, cell phones and other valuables at gunpoint along the N14 near Kuruman between July and August 2020.

The matter was referred to the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in August 2020, after complaints were reported at the local police station. The Hawks probe revealed that the alleged perpetrators were members of South African Police Services.

During their arrest a white Volkswagen Polo, allegedly used in the commission of crime was seized.

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team appeals to other motorists and possible victims who may have experienced the same, should contact Detective Warrant Officer Itumeleng Nogaga on 071 481 2754 as the suspects may have been involved in other similar Offences.

The case against the duo was postponed to the 28 September 2021 for a formal bail application. More arrests are imminent.
