Excellent investigation led by Sergeant Gail Haai, from the Northern Cape Provincial FCS, yielded much desired and positive outcome, when the Northern Cape High Court sentenced Olebogeng Thukwi 43 years on four counts of rape.

The Northern Cape High Court classified Olebogeng Thukwi (29) as a serial rapist, after finding him guilty on Wednesday 11 September 2019. Early and mid-year 2016 Thukwi raped girls aged between 11 and 14. During the commission of the crime he targeted unsuspecting girls in Sedibeng, Bankhara villages near Kuruman in the John Taolo Gaetsewe Cluster.

He grabbed and dragged all his victims into the bushes and raped them. Subsequent to raping the victims he would leave them in the bushes and run away. He was on the loose for almost two years, until his arrest on April 2018. Thukwi was linked to all four counts of rape through forensic evidence.

Toda (Friday, 13 September 2019) the Northern Cape High Court sentenced Thukwi, to an effective 43 years imprisonment on four counts of rape. The Northern Cape Police Management, praised the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Department of Justice (DoJ) for working together and ensuring that criminals such as Thukwi are removed from the society.
