The Provincial Head of the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills has welcomed the 18 years imprisonment sentence handed down to Warner Reginald Kotze in the Port Nolloth Regional court on 27 November 2020.

The 30-year-old female victim was asleep in her home in Sandrift near Alexander Bay on 3 July 2020 at 02:30. She was awoken by someone undressing her and found the accused half naked. He was also armed with a sharp object which he used to threaten the victim.

A struggle between the accused and the victim ensued and the victim screamed alerting her mother. The accused fled the scene and was arrested on 5 July 2020.

On 27 November 2020, Warner Kotze was convicted as follows:

Count 1 – Housebreaking with the intent to rape sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.
Count 2 – Attempted Rape sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Port Nolloth FCS Commander, W/O Andre Swanepoel commended the investigating officer, W/O Ulrich Aitken for the outstanding investigation of the case.
