A swift response by police officers stationed at the Campbell Police Station thwarted an attempted stock theft incident on the evening of Thursday, 26 March 2026.

Acting on information received about a planned theft involving 52 sheep, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) operationalised the intelligence and proceeded to a farm in the Campbell area at approximately 21:00.

Upon arrival, officers found the sheep herded into a corner of a camp with their legs tied using string. A section of the fence had been cut, indicating the suspects were preparing to remove the livestock imminently.

The owner of the sheep was notified, and all 52 animals were safely returned. The owner and neighbouring farmers were advised to strengthen security measures, as the area has been identified as a hotspot for stock theft. According to police, two stock theft cases were reported in the vicinity in December 2025 and January 2026.

No arrests have been made. High-density patrols have been initiated in the area following the incident.
