On Friday, 21 July 2017, four suspects aged between 25 and 38, are expected to appear in the Wolmaranstad Magistrates’ Court on charges of attempted business robbery, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The suspects court appearance stems from their arrest on Wednesday, 19 July 2017. It is alleged that the suspects entered a business premises at Wolmaransstad where a 28-year- old victim was sleeping.
The victim was running to his neighbor for help when he heard gunshots. The incident was reported to the police who responded immediately and upon arrival at the scene, they found one suspect dead.
A thorough investigation with assistance of Cluster Trio Task Team led to the arrest of the late suspect’s brother and his three accomplices. According to information available at this stage, one of the suspects was found in possession two firearms and ammunition.
Further probe linked the suspects with a house robbery case committed at Makwassie in May 2017.
The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Naidoo lauded the police for quick response that resulted in the arrest of the suspects and confiscation of the firearms. He said that the police will continue to intensify the fight against trio and other serious crimes.
