A tactical multi- disciplinary operation led by members of the Northern Cape Provincial Organised Crime, Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit, Frances Baard Detective Task Team, Kimberley Tactical Response Team, Hartswater Crime Intelligence and the Provincial Tracking team, foiled an armed robbery near Koopmansfontein which resulted in the arrest of ten male suspects.

On Thursday, 17 November 2022 the team operationalised intelligence, subsequent to the suspects’ planned robbery of a truck believed to be delivering diamond bearing gravel.

According to the information, the suspects planned to stop the truck near Koopmansfontein at gunpoint and off load the diamonds bearing gravel into their bakkies.

The suspects aged between 35 and 55 were apprehended in the veld near the road and found in possession of two 9mm pistols, one hunting rifle, bold cutters and three iron rows of stidges.

The suspects were also found in possession of two vehicles of which one was reported stolen.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Barkley West Magistrate’s Court, on Friday, 18 November on a charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition as well as possession of stolen vehicle.

The two bakkies, a Toyota Hilux and a Ford Ranger was seized as it was utilized in the commission of a crime.
