Roadblock uncovers dagga worth R1,4 mil, Garies

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has welcomed the arrest of two suspects in connection with possession of dagga weighing 97,6kg, valued at about R1, 4 million.

The two male suspects were arrested on the morning of 18 July 2020, at 04:00, during a roadblock on the N7 road near Garies in Namakwa district.

The two were reportedly transporting food supplies and other items for a well-known supermarket from Cape Town to Springbok. The truck was searched and dagga was discovered.

The District Commander of Namakwa Brigadier Hender has applauded the good work rendered by members at the roadblock.

The suspects aged 45 and 46 are expected to appear before the Springbok Magistrates court on Monday, 20 July.

Police investigation continues.
