Ritchie violence, five suspects arrested

The police have arrested five suspects (three males and two females) in connection with public violence which erupted in Ritchie. The arrest of the five suspects is the aftermath of the Municipality building’s torching at Ritchie.

It is alleged enraged members of the community are protesting against poor service delivery in the area.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lt General Risimati Peter Shivuri has appealed for calm and urged the community to resolve their concerns around the table without resorting to violence and damage to property.

Anyone with credible information about the burning of the Municipal building is kindly urged to contact Captain Deon Rheeder, Detectives Commander of Rietvale SAPS at 082 469 0193. Every information will be treated as confidential.

The suspects are expected to appear before the local Magistrate’s Court soon pending further police investigations.

Members of the Public Order Police are monitoring the situation.
