A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to direct imprisonment for the rape of his 26-year-old cousin following a night out in Madibeng Village, Severn, in 2019.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 30 November 2019. The court heard that the victim had been socializing with friends, including the accused, at a local tavern. As the establishment was closing, the accused asked the woman to accompany him to a nearby house. Upon her refusal, he produced a knife and forced her to remove her shoes.

The accused then dragged the victim to his residence, where he raped her. The ordeal ended when the assailant fell asleep, allowing the victim to escape and immediately report the crime to the South African Police Service.

The accused was arrested shortly after the report was made and remained in custody throughout the subsequent legal proceedings.

On Wednesday, 3 September 2025, the Kuruman Regional Court found the accused guilty of rape. Acting Judge [Judge’s Name, if available] sentenced him to ten years’ direct imprisonment. The court also declared the convict unfit to possess a firearm.
