The Northern Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Thabo Mphuthi, has welcomed the substantial prison sentence handed to a man convicted of rape. The Hartswater Regional Court sentenced 33-year-old Nshirimane Fabrice to 15 years imprisonment for the January 2024 rape of a 22-year-old woman.
The court heard that the conviction stems from an incident in January 2024, during which the victim was visiting the accused’s home with a friend. Fabrice offered the woman a place to rest inside his house, where he then raped her.
His arrest followed shortly after the incident. In addition to the rape conviction, Fabrice received a further three-month sentence for contravening the Immigration Act. The court has also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
