On 30 June 2020, the Galeshewe Regional Court sentenced Kagisho Khatwane (36) to 18 years imprisonment for raping a 38-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on 10 May 2017, when the victim was talking to the suspect who then grabbed and raped her. Khatwane was arrested and his bail was successfully opposed by the investing officer, Sergeant Cindy de Jong of Galeshewe Family, Violence and Sexual Offences Unit.
Khatwane will serve 18 years direct imprisonment.
This sentence should serve as a deterrent to other would be rapist and a warning that the police will leave no stone unturned to fighting crime, especially those committed against women and children.
