The police welcome the 15 year rape sentence that was handed down to Themba Hope Dipheko (46) in the Kimberley Regional Court, recently.

The first incident occurred during the evening of 14 February 2015, when the accused accosted the 25 year old female victim, threatened her with a knife and dragged her to his house in Tyala Street, Galeshewe.

He assaulted her and attempted to rape her, but she was saved when the police arrived and the suspect managed to flee.

The second incident took place on 15 February 2015 at approximately 03:00 when the same accused preyed on another 17 year old female. He chased away her two friends and with the same modus operandi coerced her into going to his house.

This time Dipheko threatened his victim with a broken bottle neck and raped her.

He fled the scene but was arrested by police the following day. The accused was found guilty on the rape charge and sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment.

The Provincial Head for the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences units, Brig Nicky Mills commended D/Sgt Aaron Gumede from the Provincial Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations unit for his excellent detective work that led to this outstanding sentence.
