The Acting District Commander of Pixley Ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis has welcomed the twelve years jail term handed down to Desmond George.

On Tuesday, 11 October 2022. Desmond was found guilty as charged on count of rape and sentenced to twelve years imprisonment by the Prieska Regional Court.

The accused raped a 27-year-old woman on Monday, 24 January 2022.

On the fateful day the victim was on her way to town, when she was accosted by the accused, dragged her into a nearby bushes and raped her.

The victim was rescued by passers-by, who heard her screaming for help. The accused was arrested shortly subsequent to fleeing the scene on foot and the investigating officer Constable Elrico Kiewiedo from Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit successfully opposed bail.

The accused was remanded in police custody until the finalisation of the trial.

Brigadier Nomana Adonis praised the investigating officer Constable Elrico Kiewiedo for excellent investigative work. “The sentence handed down to Desmond shall serve as a deterrent, and bring hope to the victim’s crimes”, said Brigadier Adonis.
