On Wednesday, 10 November 2021 the Mothibistad Regional Court sentenced 28-year-old Thato Jonas to 25 years imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

It is reported that in October 2019 during the evening, Thato went to the 87-year-old victim’s house at Mapoteng village outside Mothibistad and knocked at the door.

According to the report the victim opened the door and was threatened with a firearm.

It was reported that the suspect told the victim that he is a prophet and was sent to have sexual relations with her to take away her problems.

The suspect forcefully undressed the victim and raped her. Thereafter, he fell asleep and the victim was able to escape. She went her son’s residence and reported the incident to the police.

The suspect was arrested on the scene and arrested for rape.

The Commander of Kuruman FCS, Captain Caren Nel applauded the investigating officer Cst. Jamine Mesilla Armstrong for her dedication and the passion with which she investigated the case.

The FCS Provincial Head, Brigadier Nicky Mills also commended the department of Justice and NPA who worked closely with the police to ensure that justice was served.
