A 31-year-old man of Boichoko in Postmasburg is expected to appear before the Postmasburg Magistrates’ court on 24 April 2020, for raping two girls aged 16 and 17. It is alleged the pair met the suspect at the local tuck shop on Saturday, 18 April at about 16:00 where he lured them to his shanty.

It is alleged the victims were reportedly threatened with a knife before raping them. The suspect fled after the ordeal.

Members of the Postmasburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit launched an intensive search for the suspect who was finally arrested on 21 April 2020.

The suspect briefly appeared before the Postmasburg Magistrates’ court and the case was rolled over for the suspect’s legal aid.

The Provincial Head of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills has applauded members for their swift arrest of the suspect. “We will leave no stone unturned in making sure that the case is meticulously investigated until the the suspect is sent to jail for many years. Society cannot afford to share space with such a monster “, emphasized Brig Mills.

Meanwhile a 37-year-old man of Noupoort who raped an 82-year- old woman at Noupoort on Saturday, appeared before the Noupoort Magistrates’ court and the case was postponed to 28 April 2020, for formal bail application. Members of the De Aar Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit will oppose any attempts by the suspect to be released on bail in order to enable police to investigate the case thoroughly.
