The Northern Cape Police Management, welcomes life sentence handed down on Mojalefa Metse (32) in the Mothibistad Regional Court on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.

Mojalefa was convicted on two separate counts of rape, which he perpetrated against the two female victims aged 16 and 18 between the 2017 and 2019.

During the court proceedings Mojalefa’s modus operandi was revealed where he accosted both victims, robbed them of their cellphones at a knife point and dragged them into vacant and derelict premises.

He raped the first 18-year-old victim in December 2017 and robbed her of her cellphone, dragged her into a nearby yard and raped her.

He fled with her cellphone subsequent to raping her. The victim screamed for help and was rescued by the occupants of the vehicle which was passing-by.

On the day of the incident the victim was on her way home from a local tuck-shop in Magojaneng village near Kuruman. He was arrested in January 2019 subsequent to being linked to the rape case through the DNA results.

In November 2019 while out on bail, Mojalefa, grabbed and raped a 16-year-old victim.

On the day of the rape incident the victim was walking to a nearby restaurant in Mapoteng village. He stopped and asked the victim for her cellphone contact numbers, of which the victim told him that she was not in possession of her cellphone.

However, he continued and searched her for the cellphone and forcefully took it. Afterwards Mojalefa grabbed and dragged her into a nearby abandoned shack and raped her. He held the victim hostage the entire night until 04:00 the next morning.

Mojalefa was arrested subsequent to the victim reporting the incident to the police.

The investigating officer successfully opposed bail and Mojalefa was kept in police custody until the trial was concluded in the Mothibistad Regional Court on Tuesday, 12 October 2021.

Mojalefa was found guilty and sentenced on two counts of rape.

Count 1 rape, he was sentenced to effective 10 years imprisonment,
Count 2 rape, he was sentenced to effective life sentence imprisonment.

The Mothibistad Regional Court, ordered that Mojalefa’s name be recorded in the National Sexual Offence Register and he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Northern Cape Provincial Head of Family violence, Child protect and Sexual offence (FCS) unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Keitumetse Semetsa for her excellent investigative work by working in synergy with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and Department of Justice (DoJ).
