The SAPS welcomes the rape sentencing that was handed down to Boitshwarelo Kakua (26) in the Mothibistad Regional Court.

On 7 October 2018, at about 09:40, the 15-year-old girl was on her way home from a shop in the Dithakong Village in Bothitong. The accused accosted the victim and dragged her to the river where he assaulted and forcefully raped her. The suspect was later arrested, found guilty and sentenced on 2 December 2020.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner in the Northern Cape, Major General Henriette De Waal commended Detective Sergeatn Matshidisho Boikanyo of the Kuruman Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for the sterling investigation that led to this harsh sentencing, especially as we are observing 16 Days of Activism for no violence against women and children.
