As we commemorate Youth Day on 16 June 2023, the SAPS Management welcomes the 18 years’ rape sentencing handed down to a 56-year-old uncle in Galeshewe for raping his 13-year-old teenaged niece.

On 9 December 2018, the female victim was playing with her cousin. They were called by their uncle who closed his shanty’s door and raped the victim in front of her cousin.

The victim informed her grandmother and who immediately laid a charge at the police station.

The accused was arrested the same day and remained in custody up until his sentencing on 12 June 2023 in the Galeshewe Regional Court.

The uncle was sentenced to 18 years’ direct imprisonment for rape and his name was registered in the National Register For Sex Offenders.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Mmantsheke Lekhele commended the investigating officers Detective Captain Godfrey Khatwane and Detective Constable Beverley Matlhale for their meticulous investigation which resulted in the accused being incarcerated for his heinous and atrocious deed.
