Galeshewe District Court sentenced 56-year-old Stefanus van Vreden to 18 years direct imprisonment for raping an 11-year-old girl.
On 25 August 2018 at about 20:30 the accused took the victim to Upington where he had sexual intercourse with her. Upon the victim’s return, her grandmother opened a rape case as the victim is too young to give consent.
Van Vreden was arrested on 18 September 2018 after a thorough investigation conducted by Sergeant C De Jong. He was granted bail and on 14 February 2020, he was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 18 years imprisonment.
