Alex Kgakatsi (18) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the rape of a 10-year-old female in Deben.

On 1 November 2020, at about 15:30, the victim and friends were accosted by a male near the dumping site in Deben. Her friends managed to escape the perpetrator however Alex forcefully took the victim deeper into the site and raped her.

The friends later came to her rescue and Kgakatsi fled the scene.

Police arrested the accused and he was found guilty in the Kathu Regional Court. Alex Kgakatsi was sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment for rape today.

“The Provincial Head for Family Violence, Child Protection (FCS) Unit, Brigadier Nicky Mills commended Detective Sergeant Phako Bele of the Kathu FCS Unit for a job well done. We will robustly continue in our mandate to ensure the protection and safety of women and children as it remain one of our priorities in the SAPS. Especially as we are observing the 16 days of no violence against women and children awareness campaign Mills said”.
