The Provincial Management welcomes the sentencing on two counts of rape that was handed down to Gerrit Brian Mieneis (44) in the Upington Regional Court on 29 July 2021.

The sentencing follows after the court heard how the accused raped a 27-year-old deaf-mute female twice, while she was visiting her aunt on 27 April 2019 and again on 4 May 2019 in Pabalelo. Gerrit Mienies is the boyfriend of the victim’s aunt and.

A case was reported to the police on 5 May 2019 and the accused was arrested on 20 May 2019. He was denied bail and remained in custody up until his sentencing in the Upington Regional Court.

He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the first rape and another 15 years for the second rape. The sentences will run concurrently.
