On Tuesday, 16 June 2020 at 07:00 in Greenpoint, Kimberley, the 24-year-old female victim walked with her friend to the tuck shop. After that the victim went with her friend to her aunt’s house. Whilst standing outside, the suspect, who is the victim’s sister’s ex-boyfriend approached the victim and dragged her into the shack against her will.

The suspect assaulted and raped the victim who then reported the incident. The police arrested the suspect and bail was successfully opposed.

On Monday, 28 August 2023, the Kimberley Magistrate Court convicted and sentenced, 38-year-old, Vincent van Wyk to twenty years direct imprisonment for rape and the accused name will be entered into the sexual offences register and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola applauded D/WO Attie Browsers for his dedication, hard work and thorough and meticulous investigation that ensured the removal of the perpetrator from society for a lengthy period.
