Unabated efforts to remove drugs from the streets by SAPS members in Kakamas, yielded great success after a huge consignment of dagga was confiscated after following up on information.

On 22 November 2021 at approximately 21:00, Lt Col Nico Maree of Kakamas SAPS acted on information received about a consignment of dagga that was being delivered at premises nearby Lutzburg in Kakamas.

Lt Col Maree acted swiftly and with the assistance from security personnel, proceeded to the premises where they found a VW Caddy bakkie loaded with 16 bags of dagga.

Two male persons aged 58 and 64 respectively were arrested at the scene and the 385.3 kg dagga and vehicle were confiscated.

The street value of the dagga is estimated at R286 000.

The two suspects will soon appear in the Kakamas court on charges of dealing in dagga.

The Acting District Commander of ZFM District, Colonel Peet Coetzee commended the members of Kakamas police for their swift reaction and also thanked the community for their continuous assistance in fighting and combating crime and urged them to continue to be the eyes and ears of the police. The police will continue to tighten the grip on crime during this period.
