On 23 April 2020, at approximately 12:40 members of the Kathu Crime Prevention Unit operationalised information received regarding alleged stolen property being stored in a store room at a residence in Siyathemba in Kathu.

Sgt Ben Eiman and Constables Blythe Jantjes and Beatrice Canchibatho accompanied by members of Rhino Security visited the address after a search warrant was obtained. Upon arrival at the house, the members searched the premises and discovered various items in a store room including bicycles, welders, edge cutters and numerous electrical equipment.

The value of the recovered items amounted to R270 000-00.

The 36-year-old male owner of the residence could not provide proof of ownership for any of the items and was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. It is alleged that the items were stolen during burglaries in the Kathu area.

The suspect will soon appear in the Kathu Magistrates’ court.

The Station Commander of Kathu SAPS, Lt Col Sandra Boshof commended the members for squeezing the space for criminals to operate during the lockdown period.
